Soft on Jihadis?? Till the other day he was himself a jihadi albeit a spineless one, who supported other jihadis to the kargill misadventure!! In pakistan everybody is a jihadi because in someway or the other they support the fanatics-going after the support network is more important than going after the drop down dead loonies!

"I have never done anything not seriously. I don't bluff. I do act with realism. I am realistic, not idealistic. I am very, extremely serious."(Mushrraf)

Eloquence thy name is definitely NOT Musharraf.....

....somewhere between the self-centered self-promoting self-aggrandizing I, I, and my, my -- Mushrraf definitely shows a chracter defect bordering on narcissistic delusional megalomania...

.....the man really BELIEVES that he is the new realistic Owner and the non idealistic Master of Pakistan -- and the hapless country is his private personal property....

it is good to know that -- Mr. Musrraf acknowledges that he has "never done anything not seriously" -- because hijacking an elected government at gunpoint was definitely not a -- "not seriously done" -- "very extremely serious"....CRIME.

May be -- not to HATE us but to SHAPE us...?

Indeed...HATE has NOT taken us anywhere.....except at the bottom pit of the world communities.

Well, Mush doing the best possible under the circunstances is probably a true statement largely because we do not know how any one else would have done. But apart from that, the key issue is that this he is also the architect of this situation.

Is it so hard to believe that all these years in army when Pakistan was openly supporting Afghan war funded by "offical" foreign aid from countries like US and Saudi, why do you think Mush rose through the ranks - is it because he was preaching his enlightened moderation or because he was effectively carving out the jehadi infrastructure.

It is like adorning Adolf Hitler (had Germany won the war) for rebuilding Europe. Of course had Germany won the WW-II the only sensible thing for Hitler to do was to rebuild Germany and Europe. But does that dimishes the atrocities or rather the stupidities of his earlier ideologies.

Same way it is hard to believe that Pakistanis are putting all these army years of Mush behind him and letting hin get away with that. If you ever feel like blaming anything on army or its corrupt offices then you should think of Mush first - he has been there the longest and the highest level. I have no evidence one way or the other about his personal integrity and his invlovement with corruption but I am dead sure that he once strongly believed in the jehadi ideology.

Thanks

Mush responds to the stick or what he perceives to be the stick. He capitualted lock, stock and barrel to Bush before Afghan attack happened ,"because, otherwise, Pakistan would have been also attacked".

His persecition of A.Q. Khan happened because, othertwise,
the Americans would have destroyed our nuclear assets.

He now says that he did not act resolutely against the militants because, otherwise, the Taliban would have stormed Pakistani territory.

He made outlandish offers to India regarding Kashmir because, otherwise, India would have attacked Pakistan.

As long as Bush and Singh are happy, who are we to cast doubts on the policies being adopted in response to developing pressures?

There appears to be a fundamental disconnect between how the West perceives Islamic terrorists (dark, evil and with no respect to humanity) and how the Islamic world perceives them (mysterious, romantic, Robin Hoodish).

As long as this disconnect remains, as long as Musharraf and his ilk continue to secretly glorify and admire the terrorists, they will remain soft, no matter what public posture they take.

What makes you think Mush wants to win the war on terror.

He will do just enough with their poitless foot soldiers. The leaders of these terror outfits are free to rome around pakistan and spew hate filled speaches. they serve the armys purpose of 1. staying in power 2. keeping the low level intensity conflict with India going (Mush said so much when he took control), kashmir or no kashmir.

pakistanis army's motto: Jehad fi Sablillah - Jihad in the name of God.

These guys see themselves as the warriors representing militaant Islam
